Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Alhambra Necklace Real/Fake 6

We have done a few blogs on real/fake handbags before. This time we will do a real/fake on Van Cleef & Arpels necklace! VCA's most signature item undoubtedly is from the Alhambra collection. The Alhambra motif draws inspiration from the contours of the four-leaf clover. They are in two sizes: Sweet Alhambra (small) and Vintage Alhambra (large). Not only necklace, the Alhambra collection also includes watch, ring and bracelet.

And this time we will show you a counterfeit and an authentic one of Vintage Alhambra pendant necklace in white mother-of-pearl. And.....

along with the counterfeit and authentic VCA Jewellery Case!

Part 1: VCA necklace hardware and pendant

Without light reflection, you might not see the difference and don't have a clue on which one is fake. But under the light, the authentic one will show some iridescent green light reflection as it is mother-of-pearl. However the fake one will not show any light reflection or iridescent green light as it is made from plastic probably. 

Also pay attention on the clasp and the plate on the end. VCA uses both types of clasp and engraving shown above. BUT!!!

The fact is VCA changed the clasp, font engravings in recent year. The bottom one is the authentic old version, which is round clasp with black engraving. And the new one is shown below, which is flat clasp with VCA logo and different font engraving.

You might wonder, what wrong with the top one in the first photo then? 

That is a counterfeit copied a serial number of a real VCA vintage Alhambra necklace in Malachite. According to its manufacture year, it should have an old version clasp and engraving. However, it is copied with new version clasp and font engraving. 

Part 2: VCA jewellery case and plated logo

The case and its plated logo gave a big hint. Everyone can tell if comparing the real one next to it.

Looking at the height and bottom of the case, you can see the differences. The right one is an authentic case, which's bottom is flat and smooth.

The plated logo on left side is printed poorly. Clumsy edge.

The right side authentic plated logo is sharp and neat.
